The Westport Library’s two new robots—which can recognize faces, have conversations, dance and do much more—will be introduced in a demonstration at Star Wars Reads Day at 11:30 am in the McManus Room. The two-foot-tall NAO robots, developed by the French company Aldebaran, will be used in a variety of ways, including teaching the coding language Python.
Here are some of the other offerings on Star Wars Reads Day, a national multi-publisher initiative that celebrates reading and Star Wars, on Saturday, October 11, from noon to 5 pm in various parts of the Library:
• At noon in the McManus Room: Enjoy a screening of "Star Wars: Episode V―The Empire Strikes Back" in a re-mastered Blu-ray edition. Bring your light sabers!
• From noon-3pm in The Great Hall: Join the cardboard building challenge for kids of all ages, who are invited to build anything they can dream up using cardboard, recycled materials and imagination.
• At 2:30 pm in the McManus Room: Watch a screening of "Star Wars: Episode VI―Return of the Jedi," also in a re-mastered Blu-ray edition.
• In The Great Hall, have your picture taken with life-size cut-outs of Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Yoda and CP3O.
• Check out one of the many Star Wars-related books available for kids and adults!
