Westport Photographer Larry Silver to Speak to Y's Men

Westport resident Larry Silver, photographer and chronicler of Westport, will be the Y’s Men of Westport/Weston’s featured speaker at its November 20 meeting at the Unitarian Church in Westport at 10 Lyons Plain Road. He will speak about a life in photography that began in New York City. Coffee and donuts start at 9:45 AM; Mr. Silver will talk at 10:30 AM.

Bronx born Larry Silver began taking photos in the 1940’s while he attended the High School of Industrial Art in Manhattan, and where he met photographers including Eugene Smith, Weegee and Lou Bernstein of the Photo League. A full scholarship to the Art Center School in Los Angeles in the early 50’s took him to California and Muscle Beach.  After establishing himself in New York City, he moved up to Westport in 1973.  The Westport Historical Society recently exhibited of some of his pictures of Westport.

Mr. Silver works in black-and-white. His photographs are held in many important collections, including those of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Brooklyn Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and Minneapolis Institute of Arts.

The Y's Men of Westport/Weston is an organization of semi-retired and retired men with a continued interest in activity, fellowship, learning and community service.
