Marshall Tucker Band brings Southern Rock to The Ridgefield Playhouse on Thursday, December 11

For decades, the Marshall Tucker Band has been one of the greatest Southern rock bands of all time, changing the sound of ’70s music with hits such as “Heard It in a Love Song,” “Can’t You See” and “Fire on the Mountain”. From their first LP in 1973, to their powerful stage presence today, the Marshall Tucker Band has played countless concert venues around the world. The good ol' boys from Spartanburg, South Carolina remain a powerful force in the world of music and are returning to The Ridgefield Playhouse on Thursday, December 11, at 8 p.m. Special guest is singer/songwriter Larry Stevens, whose second CD, Downstairs at Mayo’s, blends rock and pop with a twist of country. Ancient Mariner (451 Main St., Ridgefield) will pour a complimentary glass of wine with dinner the night of this event when ticket is presented. An AllShows.com VIP Party Pass ($25 addt'l per person), which includes a pre-show cocktail party 6:30 – 7:15 p.m. with open bar, hors-d’oeuvre and priority parking, is available for this show, which is part of the Xfinity Rock Series.

Ultimate Classic Rock lists Marshall Tucker Band’s “Can’t You See” as No. 1 of the greatest Southern Rock songs ever recorded.   “We are over the top with this announcement from Ultimate Classic Rock,” raves Marshall Tucker Band lead singer and founding member Doug Gray.  “It certainly lets us all know that ‘Can’t You See’ is and will continue to be appreciated for a very long time.”

Still led today by Doug Gray, Marshall Tucker Band represents a time and place in music that will never be duplicated.  Gray is quick to credit the band's current dynamic members with carrying on the timeless essence of the band’s sound. They are slide guitarist Stuart Swanlund who joined the Marshall Tucker band in 1989, the highly respected drummer B.B. Borden, multi instrumentalist Marcus Henderson who plays flute, saxophone and keyboards and sings lead and background vocals, Pat Elwood on bass guitar, and Rick Willis on lead guitar and vocals. Together they present a powerful stage presence.

“The buying public never really cared whether we were country or rock and roll", says Gray. "They called us a Southern rock band, but we have always played everything from country, jazz, blues, Rock & Roll and all things in-between. As we've become older," Gray grins, eyes twinkling, "our Southern heritage seems to come out even more. But no matter how old we get, we can still rock your socks off."

For tickets ($47.50), call the box office (203) 438-5795, or order online at ridgefieldplayhouse.org. The Ridgefield Playhouse is a not-for-profit performing arts center located at 80 East Ridge, parallel to Main St., Ridgefield, CT.
