Westport Weston First Night: It's a Kid's World

Westport Weston First Night will once again make the afternoon and early evening a kids’ world, with programs in the Westport Library and at Saugatuck Elementary School.

In the Westport Library, Dennis the Train Man returns with his model trains in the McManus Room from 4-6 pm.

In addition, at 4:00 and 5:45 Sarah Wheeler will present Little Groove, an interactive music program for children seven and under. She’ll lead them through activities using drums, shakers, and tambourines. They’ll make the music, they’ll sing, they’ll dance, they’ll even bring puppets, bubbles, balls, pom pons, and parachutes in their act.

The Saugatuck Elementary School will be hopping. Before getting their face painted, kids can enjoy a room full of inflatables from 4:00 to 9 pm. Parents, here’s your down time.  Pat Mason returns to draw animal caricatures for everyone who drops by between 4:00 to 8:00.  An Bibi will be making balloon art for all of the children.

From 5 to 8 pm, Amazing Face Art will paint your child’s face or body. Their creations are pure color, they’re fantastic and they’re done with only the safest and highest quality hypoallergenic, non toxic and FDA approved face paints that wash off easily with soap and water. And the cost is only $3.00.

There’ll be food, and there’ll be two lively music programs in the auditorium.

Guitarist, singer music educator Vanessa Trien and her Jumping Monkeys band will entertain kids with “magical energy” music shows at 4:30 and 5:30.

And from 6:45 till 8:45 Washboard Slim and the Bluelights will entertain with jug band music from the very root of traditional American popular music - from early jazz to roots rock’n’roll, to swing, gospel and pop.

Jonathan Geffner, a wonderful and funny ventriloquist returns to the auditorium at 5:15 and 6:15.  The Magic Genie takes the stage at 7:45 pm

The fireworks will go off at 7:30 pm, so step outside and have look skyward. Once they are over, continue to enjoy the rest of our performances.
