Westport resident Michaela Rome named vice provost for institutional effectiveness at Sacred Heart University

Michaela Rome will assist with academic and strategic planning, program review and other areas

Sacred Heart University has brought in Michaela Rome as the new vice provost for institutional effectiveness. She will work from the academic affairs department and will report to the provost.

Rome will be a strategic partner in creating an environment that supports the use of research and data analysis to guide academic decision-making and institutional improvement. She will serve on the provost’s leadership team, assisting with academic and strategic planning, program review, accreditation, student success, the development and administration of academic programs and policies and intercollegiate, interdivisional cooperation and collaboration.

Prior to accepting her role at SHU, Rome had two decades of experiences in higher education. She served as associate provost at New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, NY, and associate provost for institutional effectiveness and accreditation at The New School in New York City. In addition, she was the assistant vice provost for assessment and evaluation at New York University in New York City, and assistant provost for institutional research and effectiveness at Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY.

“I was drawn to the forward-looking, entrepreneurial spirit of Sacred Heart University, as well as its grounding in the liberal arts and the Catholic intellectual tradition,” Rome said. “I am excited to become part of the close-knit SHU community and to leverage strategic planning and data-informed decision making to enhance student success and institutional excellence.”

Rome earned her bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA, and continued her education in Montpellier, France, earning her masters in developmental psychology at the Université Paul Valéry. Rome then pursued her Ph.D. in psychology at City University of New York Graduate Center in New York City and studied at the Institute for Management in Leadership and Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She currently resides in Westport.
