Westport, Conn. -- Westport Farmers’ Market’s (WFM) Get Growing is one of the many wonderful programs the WFM has to offer. Each week, the Market hosts a craft or activity for kids and toddlers. It is in the Market's ethos to keep young ones engaged and informed about the importance of shopping locally, sustainability and all the benefits of going to your local farmers’ market.
Program leader Mae Farrell loves interacting with kids and their families while being able to provide a fun place for them to visit each week. “It truly brings me joy to have helped create a space that kids look forward to going to each week. WFM has always felt like one big family and community to me, and the GG program has created its own community of young ones within it. Watching and being able to help nurture kids’ creativity and artistic views is such an honor to hold,” said Farrell. This program also supports other local businesses by hosting relevant businesses that provide impactful children’s programming.
With WFM growing, its need for craft items has grown as well. WFM will host a craft material drive Oct 12 and 19. The program seeks donations of the following items: cheese cloth, paper, pom poms, markers, crayons, shells, toilet paper rolls, mini wooden ornament slabs, cookie cutters, felt, dried beans and lentils, ribbon, clay, washable paints, paper straws and white paper plates.
