Cold Weather Fun at Beardsley Zoo

Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo is pleased to release its calendar for December 2019 and January 2020. The Zoo plans fun and educational special events and seasonal programs for the entire family, most of which are free with the cost of admission. Calendar subject to change without notice. Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo is closer than you think and open daily from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Adult admission (ages 12 & older) is $16.00; children’s admission (ages 3 -11) is $13.00, senior admission (62 and older) is $12.00 and children under 3 years old are free. Zoo members also are admitted free. 

Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo is located at 1875 Noble Avenue, Bridgeport, Connecticut and parking at the zoo is free of charge. 

Farmyard Closed for Renovation

The Zoo is transforming the Farmyard with new habitats for heritage farm breeds, a new children’s play area, and a larger Educational Amphitheatre for Zoo shows and school groups. The Farmyard is closed to guests while undergoing renovation. Current estimate for completion date is Summer 2020.

December 5, Teen Volunteer Open House, 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m.

Investigate Zoo life with our teen programs. The Zoo offers seasonal as well as year-long programs, including Conservation Discovery Corps and our Explorer Post. Our programs inspire and motivate teens looking for hands-on Zoo life experience. For high school teens with parents or guardians. In the Zoo’s Hanson Building, 1875 Noble Avenue, Bridgeport. 

December 7 & 8: Breakfast with Frosty, 8:30-10:00

Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo has a longtime family tradition: Breakfast with Frosty!  The delicious buffet breakfast includes a visit with Santa and his elf, photo opportunities with Frosty the Snowman, Stripes the Tiger, and Thirsty the Penguin and carousel rides. Note: On Sunday, December 8, Mrs. Claus will be standing in for Santa Claus. Event is $20 per person for Zoo Members and $25 per person for non-Members. Children 2 years old and younger are free. Pre-registration required; see the Zoo website at https://www.beardsleyzoo.org/breakfast-with-frosty.html for more information.   

December 10 & 11: Zoo Tots, 10:30 am

This monthly 45-minute program for children 22 months to four years old, who are accompanied by an adult, may include theme related songs or games, live animals, and a simple craft. This session is entitled “Nap or Not?” Pre-registration is required by calling 203-394-6563 or emailing programming@beardsleyzoo.org. The cost is $10 for Zoo members and one child, and $15 for non-members and one child. Please note that the program fills up very quickly and pre-registration is required. 

December 14 & 15: Breakfast with Frosty, 8:30-10:00

Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo has a longtime family tradition: Breakfast with Frosty!  The delicious buffet breakfast includes a visit with Santa and his elf, photo opportunities with Frosty the Snowman, Stripes the Tiger, and Thirsty the Penguin and carousel rides on December 15. Note: On December 14, there will be special seating in the Zoo's Hanson Building, with additional activities. The Carousel Building will be closed on December 14, and weather permitting, hayrides will be available as a substitute for carousel rides. On December 14, the event is $25 for members, and $30 for non-members. The December 15th event is $20 per person for Zoo Members and $25 per person for non-Members. January 15: Conservation Discovery Corps Application Deadline

The Conservation Discovery Corps introduces high school teens to the dynamic fieldwork that includes hands-on experience being a wildlife steward, field conservationist, and educator. The complete Conservation Discovery Corps Application Packed (application form, two reference letters, and letter of student’s interest) must be received by January 15, 2020 or postmarked by January 14, 2020 to be considered. 

January 20, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

The long weekend and a Monday off from work and school is a perfect time to visit us at the Zoo.

January 25, Amur Leopard Cubs First Birthday

Join us for a celebration of Orion and Kallisto’s first birthday on Saturday, January 25. The Zoo has planned a number of special events and activities throughout the day. The birth of Orion and Kallisto on January 25, 2019, began a critical life-saving effort for the two cubs, with round-the-clock feedings by Animal Care staff for these extremely rare endangered animals.
