Community is not Canceled: Westport Residents Sew Homemade Masks for Essential Workers

Community is not Canceled

Neighbors helping neighbors, community members reaching out to our local senior citizens, residents supporting our heroic first responders -the inspiring stories and acts of kindness brought forth by our current crisis are extraordinary. What's more, small businesses, local nonprofits, and civic organizations are innovating to stay connected and serve the community.

Community is not Canceled, a series made possible by LIFEWTR will showcase Connecticut's awesome response to this unprecedented situation. We are in this together. Stay strong.

Westport Residents Sew Homemade Masks for Essential Workers

Westport resident, Virginia Jaffe, is leading a homemade mask initiative to support essential workers in our community. She and her team have organized sewing productions within their own homes, making over 100 washable and re-usable masks a day.

Last Friday, April 10, her team sewed 135 masks ready to be donated to hospitals and other medical offices with essential workers.

Helping hands are welcome! Jaffe’s team is looking for donations of thin rope elastic (5 mm) or financial contributions to buy fabric, thread, and elastic from a local Norwalk supplier. To offer hands-on help, you can coordinate with her team to make masks using your own sewing machine.

Email westportmasks@yahoo.com to contribute or to suggest a group of essential workers you know are in need of masks.

Thank you for supporting our local heroes and helping to keep our community safe!
