Westport Farmers' Market Sponsors "Operation Warm Hug" Winter Coat Drive, Feb. 10 & 17

Westport, Conn.—January’s single-digit temperatures were a stark reminder that too many people in our own communities, children included, don’t have warm clothes to deal with the harsh winter weather. On February 10 and 17, Westport Farmers’ Market (WFM) sponsors “Operation Warm Hug”, a winter coat and accessories drive to benefit Community Coat Corners of Bridgeport.

“We believe that helping our neighbors live a healthier life is crucial to our mission. This includes gifting those that need a warm coat a reminder that they have a community that cares and is actively ready for a warm hug” said Lori Cochran-Dougall, executive director of Westport Farmers’ Market. “Operation Warm Hug is our way of virtually throwing our arms around as many of them as we can through the donation of winter outerwear.” So open those closets and ask yourself – “do I need that coat or could someone else use it?”

WFM will accept new and gently worn winter coats, scarves, hats, and mittens/gloves for people of all ages from 10-2 on February 10 and 17 at Gilbertie’s Herbs and Garden Center, 7 Sylvan Lane, Westport. Fridgeport, who runs Community Coat Corners of Bridgeport, will pick up the coats at the close of both markets and deliver them to those in need.
