WHS Hosts Lunchtime Talk on Historical Costumes: March 14

Westport, CT - Westport Historical Society Board members Cheryl Bliss, Collections Committee Chair, and Stacey Danielson, Museum Costume Consultant, will present a “show and tell” of highlights from the museum’s costume collection on Wednesday, March 14 from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. The presentation will feature dresses, shoes, purses, and accessories donated by prominent Westport women including: designer Frances McAbee- famous for the Mary Baron Slip which was sold in the 1940s at Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord and Taylor, and Bergdorf Goodman, Satenig St. Marie- the first woman vice president at JCPenny’s department store, and numerous other women.

A special highlight of the program is a unique skirt made from a late 19th-century “crazy quilt” that belonged to Westport’s Nash family. The Nash family is among Westport’s earliest settlers–one key member was Thomas Nash who was among the 24 men who petitioned the state for Greens Farms to separate from Fairfield and become part of the town of Westport.

You bring the questions and we’ll bring dessert!
