Writing Movies: What’s Your Story? A six-week workshop at The Ridgefield Playhouse with award-winning Screenwriter/Filmmaker, Katie Torpey.

6 Weeks: Thursdays 7:30pm – 9:30pm from April 12, 2018 – May 24, 2018 (no class on May 3rd)

In this 6-week screenwriting workshop, you will discover and flesh out a movie idea that you are deeply connected to. This course focuses on Katie’s unique method on how to figure out one of your personal stories by looking at your life and experiences and putting the pieces of the story puzzle together. You will learn the fundamentals of storytelling, screenplay structure and character development. You will turn your newfound story idea into a well-mapped out movie. This workshop is about discovering the writer within you and giving you the confidence to write a story you are meant to tell.

Katie Torpey is an award-winning Screenwriter / Filmmaker with an MFA from UCLA School of Film and Television. She has sold several screenplays, written for television, and worked for numerous studios and networks. Her original screenplay, The Perfect Man was released in theaters in June 2005 starring Hilary Duff, Heather Locklear and Chris Noth. The following year, her romantic comedy, On the Other Side, hit theaters in Bollywood and was a big hit. She wrote and directed the independent film Truth About Kerry shot in Ireland starring Stana Katic (Castle), which was released in April 2012.  She also co-created Mother Up! An animated TV series about motherhood starring Eva Longoria. She is currently adapting her memoir Just Breathe into a screenplay and her latest script Spaghetti Park is in pre-production.

In January 2017, Katie launched her own production company Your Story Productions, a Film, Television, and Digital Media Company that focuses on helping writers to discover and write the stories they are meant to tell, ultimately creating content that impacts humanity and makes a difference. Currently, she has two movies and one TV show in development.
