WHS & Garden Club Host Book Talk/Garden Tour, Aug. 24

Westport, CT - Kelle Ruden, a professional discussion leader, WHS advisory board member and President of the Westport Garden Club, will facilitate a discussion on the book The Lilac Girls on Friday, August 24, from 11 am to Noon. Authored by Martha Hall Kelly, it is based on the true story of American philanthropist and former actress Caroline Ferriday who rescued 72 Polish women from the Ravensbrück Concentration Camp in Northern Germany and brought them to the U.S. for rehabilitation and the trip of a lifetime. Miss Ferriday spent 78 summers at her home, the Bellamy-Ferriday House and Garden in Bethlehem, CT creating a wonderland of gardens and refurbishing the 18th century home, a Connecticut Landmark. Copies of Lilac Girls are available at the Westport Public Library.

The opportunity to enjoy a private tour of the Bellamy-Ferriday House and Gardens, Caroline Ferriday’s home and an inspiration for the novel will take place on Saturday, August 25th at 10:30 am. We will depart from the Westport Historical Society at 9:15 am. Directions are available for participants wishing to meet the group at the Bellamy-Ferriday site.

Pre-registration required for the tour of the Bellamy-Ferriday House and Garden on Saturday, August 25, 2018 as space is limited. Cost for both events: $22 for members, $25 for non-members. If you would like to attend only one event, admission for members is $12, $15 for non-members.

Reservations are required, register online at westporthistory.org or call (203) 222-1424 ext 5. Tickets are nonrefundable. In the event you must cancel, we will consider your purchase a donation and will happily issue you a donation receipt.
