Maker Faire Westport on Saturday, April 27

Westport, CT – The lineup has been announced for the 8th annual Maker Faire Westport on Saturday, April 27.  This year’s attractions include some favorites as well as some new activities for all ages.

Part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new, Maker Faire Westport is an all-ages gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students and commercial exhibitors. All of these “makers” come to Maker Faire Westport to show what they have made and to share what they have learned.

Maker Faire Westport is Connecticut’s largest single-day event.  The organizers are planning on between 15,000 and 20,000 attendees.

More than 100 Makers have signed up to participate at this year’s event.  Some of the highlights include:

  • “Game of Drones” sponsored by Sacred Heart University Engineering features flight simulators, drone building and training workshops, drone programming, and more.
  • “The Future is Now” sponsored by David Adam Realty, will showcase home automation, electric vehicles and a live band.
  • “STEM on Wheels” sponsored by University of Bridgeport. Visit Connecticut's first mobile laboratory bus: the University of Bridgeport – Discovery Museum STEM on Wheels bus offers hands-on STEM experiences for K-12 classrooms.  Robotics, coding, imaging systems and more!
  • “The Great Duck Project” sponsored by Westport Sunrise Rotary Club will let people see and participate in an attempt to build the world’s largest 3D printed duck.
  • The “Nerdy Derby” sponsored by Stanley Black & Decker engages people of all ages to build, decorate and race their custom car.  The only rule:  There are no rules!
  • The “Sustainable Pathways” attraction will provide people with hands on activities and exhibits where they can have fun learning and experiencing how to make sustainable living part of their everyday lives.

In addition to these attractions, there will be artists, musicians, stage performers, speakers, school projects, crafters, entrepreneurs, large and small companies and a big dose of “wow” for all ages.

This year’s Maker Faire Westport will be held in downtown Westport on Veterans’ Green and the Baldwin parking lot.  The Faire runs from 10 am – 4 pm and is free to attend.  The opening ceremonies will be held at 10:45 am.

Free parking is available downtown as well as at Saugatuck Congregational Church, the Westport Country Playhouse, the Imperial Avenue commuter lot and in Lot 1 at the Westport train station.  Free shuttle service provides both downtown and parking shuttles.

About Maker Faire

Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker Movement.  It’s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning.

Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers.  They are of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and grow this community.

The original Maker Faire event was held in San Mateo, CA and in 2017 celebrated its twelfth annual show with some 1200 makers and 125,000 people in attendance.  World Maker Faire New York, the other flagship event, has grown in six years to 900+ makers and 95,000 attendees.  Forty larger scale Maker Faires occur in cities around the world—Berlin, Paris, Rome, Tokyo, and Shenzhen to name a few—and over 220 community-driven, independently organized Mini Maker Faires are now being produced in the United States and in 43 other countries around the world.
