Saturday, June 1. Westport Sunrise Rotary presents its 11th Annual Great Duck Race on the Saugatuck River at Parker Harding Plaza. There’ll be kids activities, entertainment and plenty of food — and the Duck Race — all to make a great family day.
Buy a ticket for $20, own a duck. At 3:00 they’re off. Watch your little yellow duck — and others like it — float down the Saugatuck River with 3,000 look alikes. If the one with your ticket number bobs home first you take home a $5,000 VISA Gift Card. The next one home gets you a $1,000 VISA Gift Card — and the eight after that give each ticket holder a $500 VISA Gift Card.
And it’s all for charity. Sunrise Rotary supports some two dozen greater Westport area community service organizations — non-profits providing shelter for homeless men and women, food for those in need, support for victims of domestic abuse, homes and jobs for people with developmental disabilities, and English lessons for immigrants.
Kids’ activities begin at 11:00 am — games and crafts, the Maker Faire Nerdy Derby, an inflatable obstacle course, tennis ball toss, duck decorating, face painting. And food trucks!
Look for Rotarians wearing bright yellow shirts and “Got Ducks” pins. Buy your ticket(s): At the Thursday Farmer’s Market, the Memorial Day Parade, and on weekends they’ll be manning a duck adorned table on Main Street.
