Chowdafest to Celebrate 12 Years this Fall

The premier culinary event, Chowdafest presented by Stop & Shop, turns 12 this fall. The folks behind this annual festival that determines who makes the best chowder, soup & bisque in New England, have literally taken this popular event to an art form.

This August Chowdafest will be unveiling their 2019 trophies at the Mystic Outdoor Arts Festival on Aug 10-11. “Our incredible trophies are nautical sculptures created by artist Wendy Marciano” said Jim Keenan, event director of Chowdafest. “She’s been creating these unique works of art for Chowdafest for 5 years now and winning one of these special creations has become a big deal among chefs. We love these one-of-a-kind trophies because they recognize the culinary artistic creations of our one-of-a-kind chefs”.

The 65th Annual Mystic Outdoor Art Festival is expected to have over 85,000 people attend over the two day festival and this year’s theme is sustainability & ocean ecosystems. “This is the perfect event to kick-off Chowdafest this year. Artist Marciano loves walking beaches from Greenwich to Narragansett. Her sculptures are made from re-purposed items she finds washed upon the beaches and her sustainable efforts keeps the shoreline clean so we tie into this year’s theme perfectly”.

Not only do attendees get to appreciate these works of art but this will also be the first opportunity to get tickets to Chowdafest. Chowdafest tickets won’t officially be available online until Sept 6, one month before the Oct. 6 event. Adult general admission tickets remain at $20 but those attending the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival can save $5 only at the arts festival.

“We’re very excited about being part of this art festival” added Keenan. “We even created a vintage, commemorative and collectible art poster for Chowdafest this year. They’ll be seen hopefully everywhere and we’ll introduce a new design at next ear’s festival. Mystic is quintessential New England and tying our New England event to it is just ideal”.

Chowdafest will be held on Sunday October 6 at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport. CT The event benefits Food Rescue US in the ongoing fight against food insecurity. Over 2 million meals have been funded through Chowdafest in the past 4 years.
