Maker Faire Connecticut at Staples High School April 18-19, 2020

Westport, Connecticut – Connecticut’s largest creativity and innovation event is growing up.  After eight years as Maker Faire Westport, the 9th annual event has been renamed Maker Faire Connecticut in order to reflect its growing size and impact.  The event will occur on Saturday and Sunday, April 18 and 19, 2020.  The event will take place at one of Western Connecticut’s largest venues, Staples High School in Westport, Connecticut.  Attendance is planned to be 15,000 – 20,000 people.

“Maker Faire Connecticut will showcase more creative people from a broader geography.  We will also demonstrate what Connecticut has to offer the world in terms of education, communities, workforce and more,” said Mark Mathias, founder and president of Remarkable STEAM, Inc.  “Maker Faire Connecticut will inspire people to learn and grow while having a positive impact on the economy,” Mathias added.

For the past eight years, Maker Faire Westport has provided a place where individuals, libraries, schools and universities, communities, crafters, tinkerers, entrepreneurs and businesses can showcase their skills and talents to a receptive audience.  Personal and business connections are made and lives are changed because of the inspiration and people that participate in a Maker Faire.

Along with the name change, Maker Faire Connecticut will be a two-day event, expand both its creative and business audience and reach out to a broader geography for both makers and attendees.

More announcements will be made as the event develops.  People who want to be involved in the event or have questions should contact Mark Mathias at mark@remarkablesteam.org or 203-226-1791.

About Maker Faire

Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker Movement.  It’s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning. Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers.  They are of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and grow this community.

The original Maker Faire event was held in San Mateo, California and in 2019 celebrated its 14th annual show with some 900+ makers and 90,000 people in attendance. Forty other larger scale Maker Faires occur in cities around the world—Detroit, Milwaukee, Berlin, Paris, Rome, Tokyo, and Shenzhen to name a few— and over 150 community-driven, independently organized Mini Maker Faires are now being produced around the United States and the world.
