Whiffenpoofs in Westport

The Yale Whiffenpoofs, the oldest and most famous college a cappella group, will perform for Y’s Men of Westport/Weston — and for Westport — on Thursday, March 26, in the Sanctuary at the Saugatuck Congregational Church Sanctuary at 2:30 pm.

The performance is free, so come, bring your significant other, bring your friends.

The Whiffs were looking to fill their entire Spring calendar when their concert series in Asia was cancelled due to the coronavirus. Yale alum and Y’s Man Arthur Greenberg jumped into the breech and booked them for our community. Thank you, Arthur.

They were founded in 1909 as a quartet offering concerts at Morey’s Temple Bar, the famous New Haven watering spot, and soon established a tradition of weekly gatherings for light-hearted song. They have become a 14 voice group that has performed for presidents, at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, on Saturday Night Live, at the Rose Bowl, and for audiences around the world.

Dressed in their traditional white tie and tails, they sing a mix of old Yale favorites, jazz standards and hits from across the generations — and perform them with wit and humor.

You’re in for a treat.

Better yet, they invite Whiffenpoof alumni to join them for their final number at every concert: The Whiffenpoof Song, so if you are a Whiff, know a Whiff, or know someone who knows a Whiff, invite him — and his friends.
