Newton Roux Gallery is a contemporary art space in Bedford Square in downtown Westport focused on emerging realist and abstract painters. Its next solo exhibition "Figures" features works by Ridgefield, CT based artist Allison Meyler and runs from Monday, November 16th - March 31, 2021.
“Figures” is a collection of work by Meyler, spanning 2018-2020. This body of work addresses the artist’s fascination with the multiple roles that women juggle in today’s society, as well as women’s notion of body image. Not always anatomically correct, her abstract treatment of the female figure is intended to be a balance between what is “pretty” and also what is true.
Her artistic process begins in weekly (pre-Covid) drawing sessions with a live model, where she creates a large amount of reference material, from which she then creates large-scale abstract acrylic paintings. Her work relies heavily on the structure of her drawing and mark making with oil pastels and colored pencils, but she also loves to experiment with other media such as spray paint, ink, stencils, and collage.
All pieces are for sale through the gallery which is open daily in Bedford Square in downtown Westport. They will also be available to view online here.
