Memorial Day Weekend BUZZ: Arts Festival, Music at MoCA, Enduring Wonder, and What the Heck is THIS?

Memorial Day Weekend and the art fairs begin! The Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County celebrates the vibrancy and diversity of the arts and culture in our region! This weekend the by-now internationally-known Westport Fine Arts Festival returns to downtown Westport, down by the Saugatuck River.

More than 170 national and international fine artists are exhibiting work in a wide variety of price ranges, subject matter and styles. The show is juried to assure high quality - and prizes will be awarded by a team of judges on the day. Bring the whole family - there will be plenty of fun activities for kids, and plenty of high end food and refreshments for all. Meet the folks from MoCA Westport, the Artists Collective and the One River School of Art.

Speaking of MoCA (the Museum of Contemporary Art in Westport) Friday night the “Music at MoCA” outdoor festival continues (but indoors Friday because of weather concerns) with “Lincoln Center Emerging Artist,” jazz saxophonist Alexa Tarantino and her quartet

Looking for some wonder - or just something intriguing and puzzling? Two in-person exhibitions open this weekend: in Stamford, the Stamford Museum and Nature Center celebrates its 85th Anniversary with “Enduring Wonder” an exhibiting showing how the Museum grew from a three-room “cabinet of curiosities” to its wide-ranging collection today ranging across the natural world, agricultural sciences, astronomy and history to important 19th- and 20th-century American Art and major sculpture.

On Sunday, down the road in Rowayton, the Historical Society opens on Sunday its “What the Heck is THIS?” exhibition of oddities from its archives. The challenge is on for you to guess what these objects were once used for - with colorful clues, a fun quiz for all ages - and prizes!
