The Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County celebrates the vibrancy and diversity of the arts and culture across the 15 towns in our region of coastal Fairfield County and each Wednesday issues our free E-Buzz newsletter with a selection of the hundreds of events posted to our website by our members.
This weekend, we’ve made a list and checked it twice because it’s packed with arts and culture events that are sure to make your heart both merry and bright.
On Friday at 8pm, The Rosanne Cash Band She Remembers Everything Tour makes a stop at The Ridgefield Playhouse. One of the country’s preeminent country and Americana singer-songwriters, Cash is a 4-time Grammy Award winner, with 21 Top-40 hits, including 11 No. 1 singles. A dazzling performance shared by the eldest daughter of the legendary Johnny Cash!
Norwalk’s Wall Street District will be shining all weekend long with its 2nd Annual Norwalk Film . Friday through Sunday, view over 50 inspirational screenings, filmmaker Q&A’s, and panel discussions. Documentaries, narratives, shorts, and more by CT filmmakers will be showcased at The Wall Street Theater, Factory Underground Studios, Studio 67, and other Wall Street district locations. Happy hour/networking opportunities abound!
“Make yourself a merry little memory” on Saturday at 10:00 am, 12:00 pm, or 2:00 pm at Fairfield Museum And History Center’s Candy House Workshop. They’ll have all the delicious ingredients for you to create your own candy house with gobs of frosty icing, graham-crackers, gumdrops, licorice, and other yummy treats.
Light up your Saturday at Norwalk’s Stepping Stones Museum For Children in Mathews Park with The Industrial Rhythm’s “Litt Percussion Show” at 11am or 2pm. This awe-inspiring performance of light and sound by a talented group of dancers and percussionists from New York and Los Angeles will wow the crowd with a light-tastic show featuring interactive glow-in-the-dark drummers. Perfect for the whole family.
Also on Saturday, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum has Family Tours at 11am and 2pm so you can enjoy the soft sculptures, collaged paintings, iron gates, and large-scale installations by Hugo McCloud and Lucia Hierro as guided by Aldrich Educators.
For chamber and flute music lovers, The Pequot Library in Southport welcomes Greater Connecticut Youth Orchestras (in partnership with the Stamford Symphony) for a shining Saturday show at 11am and 2pm. Be the first to meet the newest ensemble, the Flute Choir, in their debut under the direction of New York City-based musician Adrienne Baker.
The Greenwich Choral Society offers a glowing gift of “hope for a better tomorrow” with candles, bells and carols. On Saturday at 4:00 pm, the annual Holiday Concert: HOPE! is open to the public at the Performing Arts Center at Greenwich High School.
On Saturday at 7:00 pm Greater Bridgeport Symphony Celebrates The Holidays at Bridgeport’s Klein Auditorium. Their first post-pandemic live season event will warm you inside and out with opera highlights that sing of the reuniting of spirits. Soloists Ariadne Greif, soprano, and baritone Jean Bernard Cerin, will bring the holidays to life singing arias such as “La Bohème” and “Die Fledermaus” as well as Schubert’s “Ave Maria” and “Silent Night.” Featuring guest conductor Elinor Rufeizen, an Israeli conductor, clarinetist, and Julliard graduate, who selected special works to bring together two of the cradles of Classical music - Vienna and Italy.
For an evening of big, bold, belly laughs, it’s James Goff LIVE! at Fairfield Comedy Club on Saturday at 7:00 pm. Born and raised in the South Bronx, James has worked with some of the best in the business. He made two late-night television appearances on the Conan O’Brien show, was featured on the final season of hit HBO show 2 Dope Queens, and has a multitude of credits including Comedy Central's Open Mic Fight, Sirius Radio, MTV, HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, and Comedy Central’s Inside Amy Schumer.
70’s and 80’s pop icon fans: This one's for you! Shaun Cassidy joins The Ridgefield Playhouse on Saturday at 8pm. After a sold-out show last year, this iconic pop star, successful Broadway and West End actor, and television writer and producer returns to perform with a full band, singing all his hits – including “Da Doo Ron Ron,” “That’s Rock ‘n’ Roll,” and “Do You Believe In Magic” along with funny and moving stories of his famous family and extraordinary life.
Brighten your Sunday by joining Tara Blackwell and Cal Bocicault at The Norwalk Art Space as they discuss their current exhibition “American Iconography” with The Cultural Alliance’s Executive Director, David Green. Tara uses nostalgic cartoons and light-hearted imagery from her youth to grab viewers’ attention, and Cal creates highly-stylized portraits capturing modern black identity, but the work of both artists is grounded in social justice, equality and feminism. Q&A with the audience after the discussion.
You’ll have another opportunity to enjoy The Nutcracker Suite on Sunday at 3pm when the Valentina Kozlova Dance Conservatory of New York comes to Norwalk High School, featuring the dazzling dance students from the Conservatory in the performance. You will be treated to an hour of pure dancing including the best of the divertissements from the Kingdom of the Land of Sweets and Clara’s Dream.
