Jazz Fridays with Bill Crow Quartet at Fairfield Museum

Friday, August 12, 6:30 - 8:00 pm

This free performance on the rear patio of the museum spotlights the legendary American jazz bassist, who played in saxophonist Gerry Mulligan's bands in the 1950s and 1960s, along with pianist David Childs, saxophonist Bob Kolb, drummer Tom Melito, and vocalist Janet Zamparo. Bring your chairs, blankets, and a picnic to enjoy during the event.

Pantochino Teen Theatre’s “Grease” at SHU Community Theatre, Fairfield

Friday, August 12 at 7:30 pm and Saturday, August 13 at 2:00 and 5:30pm

The fifties musical knockout is brought to life by forty-two talented teens. Written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, the landmark Broadway musical is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary. This rollicking musical features Rydell High’s senior class of 1959: duck-tailed, hot-rodding Burger Palace boys and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking ‘Pink Ladies’ in bobby sox evoking the look and sound of the 1950’s. 

Bernie Williams ‘Breathless’ Concert at Ridgefield Playhouse

Saturday, August 13, 1:00 pm

Famed New York Yankees center fielder and Latin Grammy nominee Bernie Williams is back with another star-studded day featuring celebrities from the worlds of sports and music, all to benefit the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF). The day begins at 1:00 pm with a celebrity softball game with Bernie, bandmates, and special guests, followed by a VIP BBQ and wine tasting at 4:00 pm. Concert begins at 5:30 pm. 

Eileen Myles Poetry Reading at Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield

As part of the “All of the Sky: Five Poets, Five Saturdays” series, the Museum presents the author of more than twenty books, including For Now, Evolution, Afterglow (a dog memoir), Chelsea Girls, and I Must Be Living Twice: New & Selected Poems 1974-2014. Myles’s many honors include four Lambda Literary Awards, the Clark Prize for Excellence in Arts Writing, the Shelley Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America, Creative Capital’s Literature Award as well as their Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant, and a Foundation for Contemporary Arts grant. 

“Forever Motown” at Downtown Cabaret Theatre, Bridgeport

Picnic in the Park at Bruce Park, Greenwich

Take in an alfresco dining experience in the summer sunshine while learning about the history and the natural wonder of Bruce Park - one of Greenwich’s oldest public parks, established in 1908 through a bequest of Robert Moffat Bruce. Tatiana Eva-Marie & the Avalon Jazz Band at Levitt Pavilion, Westport

Grab your lawn chair and picnic basket and enjoy a free concert with the jazz singer nicknamed "the Gypsy-Jazz Warbler" by The New York Times. Tatiana has been acclaimed as a "millennial shaking up the jazz scene" by Vanity Fair and shereturns to explore the music of composer Django Reinhardt through her own original arrangements and lyrics in her latest project "Djangology." This is a tribute inspired by her French and Romanian Gypsy heritage and her love for the Parisian art scene of the 1920s to the 1960s. Ladysmith Black Mambazo at The Ridgefield Playhouse

Treat your soul and your senses with the musicians designated by Nelson Mandela as “South Africa’s cultural ambassadors to the world.” Ladysmith Black Mambazo has been warming hearts with their uplifting vocal harmonies, signature dance moves and charming onstage banter for 60 years and counting. With their music underpinning a timeless message of peace, love and harmony, the group was catapulted into International fame after lending vocals and inspiration to Paul Simon’s classic Graceland album in 1987. Since then, they have garnered 19 GRAMMY nominations with five wins.
