Facets of Indian Culture: An Ensemble Dance Performance with Layavinyasa

Greenwich Historical Society, Greenwich

Friday, May 26, 6:00 - 7:30 pm

Experience Kuchipudi dance, a South Indian dance form and the iconography that informs it. This event highlights the connection of dance, material culture, medieval sculpture, and painting. It includes a demonstration of hand gestures with explanatory narratives, a collection of figurines and idols on display, a moderated talk, Q & A session, and a reception following the dance performances.

Learn about Westport’s role in the American Revolution by visiting the gravestones of those who served during the war for Independence—including stories of the fateful day Greens Farms burned.  Hear the story of colonists fighting for their freedom and the stories of enslaved Africans who chose sides and fought for their voices to be heard.

Saturday May 27 and Sunday May 28, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

This festival is a notable highlight for collectors and residents from the Tri-State region, New England, and beyond. A nationally recognized, juried festival featuring a premier roster of regional, national and international fine artists. You will find a variety of media categories - including painting, photography, sculpture, fiber, printmaking, mixed media, glass, ceramics, jewelry, wood, graphics and printmaking. All artwork is available for purchase in a wide variety of price ranges, subject matter and styles.

Don’t miss the on-site food vending, live music and hands on art projects and demonstrations for children and adults. Free to the public. 

Senior Spring Dance Concert

Don Giovanni (Mozart) – The Met Opera Encore in HD

Tony Award–winning director Ivo van Hove makes a major Met debut with a new take on Mozart’s tragicomedy, re-setting the familiar tale of deceit and damnation in an abstract architectural landscape and shining a light into the dark corners of the story and its characters. Maestro Nathalie Stutzmann makes her Met debut conducting a star-studded cast led by baritone Peter Mattei as a magnetic Don Giovanni, alongside the Leporello of bass-baritone Adam Plachetka. Sopranos Federica Lombardi, Ana María Martínez, and Ying Fang make a superlative trio as Giovanni’s conquests—Donna Anna, Donna Elvira, and Zerlina—and tenor Ben Bliss is Don Ottavio.
