Photography & Sculpture Award Winners at Rowayton Arts

The award winners of the Photography & Sculpture Exhibition were announced at Sunday’s reception at the Rowayton Arts Center. Richard Ventre of Norwalk won Best in Show with his photomontage of Michelle/Bach in Mass in B Minor. The Exhibit chairs were Barbara Murphy and Azar Behjati.

Judge David Pressler said of the show, “This exhibition was a delight to the eye! With such variety and quality of work, it provides the viewer with ongoing visual stimulation as one walks through the gallery. Each encountered piece is a view into another photographer’s or sculptor’s way of experiencing their world! The winning artwork was selected, based on originality, uniqueness and technical excellence.” The list of winners:

Best in Show: Richard Ventre (Norwalk)  “Michelle/Bach Mass in B Minor” (Painted Nude, Photography, Digital Montage)

Black & White Photography: 1st Place:  Danielle Goldstein  (Westport)  “Curious”

2nd Place:  Mark Ferguson  (Norwalk)  “South Norwalk”

3rd Place:  Laure  Dunne  (Norwalk)  “Lonely Trees”

Honorable Mention:  Robert  Sachs (Norwalk)  “Mehrangarh  Fort”

Color Photography: 1st Place: Alan Sprules  (Rowayton)  “Askew”

2nd Place:  Barbara Murphy  (Norwalk)  “57th & Madison”

3rd Place:  Emily Kelting (Norwalk)  “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”

Honorable Mention:  Kirsti Holtan  (Stamford)  “Have a Seat”

Honorable Mention:  Dana Laird  (Rowayton)  “Weed Beach”

Sculpture:  1st Place:  Katharine Draper  (Norwalk)  “Vessel”

2nd Place:  Susan Acker  (Stamford)  “Seadrift”

3rd Place:  Debbie Smith (Westport)  “Bento Box Trio”

Honorable Mention:  Lois Weingarten  (City Island)  “Female Figure”

The next exhibit, “Expressions,” in October is an open call for all artists. Art submission dates are September 25 and September 26. Opening reception is Sunday, October 2.

For almost 60 years, the Rowayton Arts Center has been a cultural gem in the community. It is an exceptional gallery where regional artists may exhibit and sell their art as well as a wonderful venue for art workshops and classes.
