Why Creativity Matters in Westport: Meet Dr. Heather Hamilton

Why Creativity Matters

What fuels a vibrant, connected and creative community? What makes people feel good about living in Westport?

When locals share the creativity that they uncover in the nooks and crannies of their community it brings about connectivity and makes us all feel good.

Believe it or not, you discover creativity in the ordinary every day as you walk, shop, work and play in Westport HamletHub “Why Creativity Matters” showcases these local experiences.

Four questions with Dr. Heather Hamilton, Director of Music, Saugatuck Congregational Church, Westport.

Is there a person or organization using creativity to provoke change in Westport?

There is not just one church or synagogue that provokes change in Westport. Together our religious community works towards using creative ways to listen and learn from each other. To create a safe environment for all. We do this by offering lecture series, concerts that promote unity, art shows featuring all ages and ideas.

Any place in Westport where you go for inspiration and creativity?

I go to my office! When I turn on my computer I never know who will email with a song suggestion or concert idea. It is wonderful being a concert pianist and Music Director in downtown Westport!

Where do you see creativity when you shop locally?

I actually love looking at the creative ways in which the stores have their flowers. Both Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods and even Stop and Shop all create beautiful displays for the shoppers.

When I think of creativity in Westport I think of …

I think of all of the people in the community from our youth to our seniors. We have so many gifted performers and artists here in Westport.
