Connecticut Press Club Contest is Now Open

The Connecticut Press Club’s annual Communications Contest is now open with a wide range of categories available to recognize excellent work by the state’s media members. 

If you published a book, started a blog, wrote a news article or personal essay, created a social media campaign, or snapped a photograph it can be submitted to the contest.  

Entries in 61 categories will be judged by professionals with corresponding expertise. Categories include:

  • online and print news articles and columns

  • personal essay

  • social media campaigns

  • nonfiction, fiction, poetry, young adult, and children's books

  • specialty articles in the arts, food, business, education, travel and more

  • page design, editing, photography, and graphics

  • radio and TV

  • podcasts and blogs

  • advertising and PR

“This is an excellent opportunity for Connecticut residents to earn recognition for the excellent work that they produced in 2020,’’ Contest Director Thomas Renner said. “The news cycle, in particular, was extremely fluid and a lot of terrific work was produced. We look forward to identifying and rewarding the people who produced that work.” 

The contest will be ALL electronic. No hard copy submissions will be accepted and no offline payments will be accepted. 

Some general rules: 

  • Eligibility: Anyone who lives or works in Connecticut is eligible to enter. Work published from January 1 through December 31, 2020, is eligible. 

  • Contest Fees: The fee is $25 for the first entry and $15 for each additional entry for Connecticut Press Club members.  Non-members pay $30 for the first entry and $20 for each additional entry.  Visit the CT Press Club’s website to learn more about membership. 

  • Deadlines: January 27 is the regular contest deadline. After this date, a $25 late fee will be charged for the first entry you submit. The final deadline is midnight EST on February 10. The final book deadline is February 3.

  • We plan to celebrate the winners with a cocktail party and awards ceremony later in the year.

  • Anyone who receives a first-place award in the Connecticut contest will be eligible to enter the National Federation of Press Women National Communications Contest.

The Connecticut Press Club is an affiliate of the National Federation of Press Women (NFPW) and includes both male and female members. The club welcomes all types of communicators: writers, editors, bloggers, authors, educators, public relations professionals, media photographers, students, and more.
