Creativity Connects Westport: Meet Trace Burroughs, Artist, Musician, Podcast Co-host

Creativity Connects Westport

What fuels a vibrant, connected and creative community? What makes people feel good about living in Westport?

When locals share the creativity that they uncover in the nooks and crannies of their community it brings about connectivity and makes us all feel good. Believe it or not, you discover creativity every day as you walk, shop, work, and play in Westport?

Creativity connects us.

Meet Trace Burroughs, a local creative, cohost of the "Oh Brother Not Enough Podcast", artist and musician/songwriter.

Is there an organization in town that makes you feel good?

The Artist's Collective and the Westport Library. The Artist Collective is a nonprofit group of about 150 artists from Westport and local towns. They produce, find and promote venues where members can exhibit their art. It's a community of like minded people, that have a common passion for being creative.

I'm honored to have Bill Harmer, the Executive Director of the Westport Library, ask my brother, Miggs Burroughs and I to co-host a podcast  "Oh Brother Not Another Podcast", produced by the Library and the Quick Center for the Arts in Fairfield. In addition, we will be doing four free special event variety shows throughout the year at the Library to entertain the community.

Where do you go for inspiration and creativity?

Levitt Pavilion. I'm a songwriter and musician and I love to see the variety of performers they have and their different approaches to music and performing.

As a singer, rock music is my go-to genre, but as a songwriter, I write in many genres and get my inspiration from my love of music over many decades and the hundreds of songs I've heard. It doesn't matter where it comes from, I get inspiration from everywhere, the radio, films, television, sound design, and live performances.

What do you love about your community?

It has a long legacy of supporting the arts and those who want to make a creative contribution. As a singer, I have sung at dozens of venues throughout Fairfield County, including Cobbs Mill Inn, The Black Duck, Horseshoe Cafe, The Georgetown Saloon, Gates, the Roadhouse and dozens of others.

In regard to art, I have produced/curated 4 popup shows in Westport and New Canaan and have exhibited my art at the Carriage Barn in New Canaan, the Ridgefield Guild of Artists, The Westport Art Center, the Collective shows, Woman's Club, and many other places. This last October at MOMA (Museum of Contemporary Art) in Westport, I created, with the help of the community during family day the World's Largest Spatter painting, 10 x 20 feet, coordinated by Executive Director Ruth Mannes.
