Creativity Connects Westport: Meet Eric Chiang, Visual Artist, Community Volunteer

Creativity Connects Westport

What fuels a vibrant, connected and creative community? What makes people feel good about living in Westport?

When locals share the creativity that they uncover in the nooks and crannies of their community it brings about connectivity and makes us all feel good. Believe it or not, you discover creativity every day as you walk, shop, work, and play in Westport?

Creativity connects us.

Meet Westport resident Eric Chiang, a full-time visual artist and cultural community volunteer.

Is there an organization in town that makes you feel good?

Yes! Artists Collective of Westport. This is a nonprofit organization that connects practicing artists who can share opportunities, experiences, resources, and expertise. This allows for mutual growth. The Collective is open to all active artists who want to expand their careers in a strong, diverse arts community.

During the pandemic, The Collective launched a COVID-safe exhibit called 24/7 @ 47 Main. It features 81 artists and is available to enjoy 24/7 at three different locations. You can check it out on YouTube here.

Where do you go for inspiration and creativity?

I like to stroll on various beaches and seashores in Westport. Nature truly gives the best art show! Just look at the sky or watch how the waves stroke or sometimes spank the shore, and how seabirds glide freely in the air. Many of my artwork is inspired by scenes I have taken in while marveling at our seashores.

What do you love about your community?

Westport is a culture-endorsing community! The Saugatuck River runs through the town which is only about 40 miles from New York City.  Westport embraces the arts and is home to Westport Country Playhouse, Artists Collective of Westport, MoCA Westport, and Westport River Gallery.
