Creativity Connects Westport
What fuels a vibrant, connected and creative community? What makes people feel good about living in Westport?
When locals share the creativity that they uncover in the nooks and crannies of their community it brings about connectivity and makes us all feel good. Believe it or not, you discover creativity every day as you walk, shop, work, and play in Westport?
Creativity connects us.
Meet Deborah Weiss, visual artist.
Is there an organization in town that inspires you?
Artists Collective of Westport is a group of generous and supportive artists. This thriving group includes both professional and emerging artists who work together to present their work and bring attention to the arts in our area. Their efforts enhance our community and strive to educate, mentor and elevate daily life.
Where do you go for inspiration and creativity?
Any place where the water meets the shoreline. The coast of CT is ever-changing, the atmospheric light is an unending source of inspiration. Compo Beach and Russian Beach (Stratford) are my favorite spots. The graceful shoreline at Compo Beach is an invitation to walk both along the sand and on the walkways through the neighborhood. The natural beauty of the coastline and plant life in the area become part of my subconscious and finds its way into my work. Although I do not paint specific locations, my work is reliant upon these experiences.
What do you love about Westport?
I love the coastal beauty and the diverse artist population. The concerts at the Levitt Pavilion are one of the joys of summer and living in this area. As a not-for-profit organization, the Levitt Pavilion produces one of the largest and longest-running free outdoor festivals in the nation.
Another place I love is Westport’s Farmers’ Market. It is one of the best for local produce, friendly atmosphere.
