Three questions with Michael Torraco, owner of QuickTex Computer Specialists.
Why did you start your business?
My late Uncle got me interested in computers early so I’ve been working with them my whole life. He would bring me broken computers from his work at IBM and I would take them apart and fix them. I went to school and got my degree in Network Engineering. I worked for a few larger companies in our area. After not being truly fulfilled working for corporate companies my family suggested I start my own business. When I looked at the local market I really saw the need for a one-on-one, tailored approach to IT service, not only for the residents but the small businesses in the area. We started out as a break-fix service and have become a successful Managed Services Provider.
How many people do you employ? Any youth or seniors from the community?
QuickTex is a small husband and wife team but we utilize help from local high school and college graduates looking to learn and jump into IT fields. We are proud to say our interns quickly learn all aspects of this business and ultimately go out on their own to work in technology departments in other local businesses.
We use and work for many local businesses. Our website was designed by Digital Retail Partners. ShearCut Inc. Salon keeps us looking sharp. Our branded clothing is designed by Nice Threads, LLC. Accurate Auto Repair maintains our cars so we never have to worry about getting to a job. Johanna Straczek & Company are our tax consultants. TBI Computers is a great partner that assists us with any Apple issues we come across. We support a lot of local photographers so Photographic Solutions has been a great resource professionally as well as for our personal photography projects. The list goes on! The way we see it, sourcing personal and business services locally is the only way to keep all our local businesses and ultimately the communities thriving.
