Westport's Newton Roux Gallery Announces Solo Exhibit "You Are Enough"

New Contemporary Art Gallery Features Local Artist Cabell Molina

Newton Roux Gallery is a new contemporary art space in Bedford Square in downtown Westport focused on emerging realist and abstract painters. Its latest solo exhibition "You Are Enough" features mixed media and collage works by Wilton based artist Cabell Molina and runs from February 2019 through April 2019.

The opening reception will be held on Saturday, February 9th from 6pm to 8pm and is open to the public. All are welcome to come and meet the artist in person and enjoy complimentary wine and beer while viewing Ms. Molina’s work.

Molina’s work explores and deconstructs the patriarchal ideas tied into mid-20th century American fashion and advertising imagery. In probing the oppressive power structures lurking below the surface, Molina presents an optimistic vision of rebellion and social progress, highlighting the accomplishments of the feminist movement. Molina alternates between inspiration from her personal life and the world around her. Her unique style layers paint and collage, often incorporating vintage paper, acrylic paint, ink, ribbon, silvered gold leaf and vintage book and magazines.

“This is our first exhibition of mixed media at NR/G. We believe Cabell’s work, which explores the female experience and captivates with its references to a bygone era, will resonate with the audience we’re growing here in Westport,” said Newton Roux Gallery owner, Kevin Manley.

Newton Roux Gallery, at 14 Elm Street, occupies the 2nd floor corridor connecting Barbour and Whip Salon in the new Bedford Square retail complex in downtown Westport. The entrance is at the top of the stairs across the street from The Spotted Horse. Owners Amy Pal and Kevin Manley created the gallery to help promote talented emerging local artists, create synergies between the gallery and surrounding Bedford Square and Church Lane merchants, and make the buying process transparent and easy for collectors while leveraging an underutilized space with natural foot traffic. The gallery is open during the normal business hours of Bedford Square, or by appointment. For more information visit https://www.newtonroux.com/, email info@newtonroux.com, or call 203-403-0863.

Artist’s Biography- Cabell Molina

Cabell Molina is a contemporary artist transplanted from California to the East Coast. Formerly an advertising art director, Cabell worked for multinational advertising agencies in cities all over the world. Prior to her stint in “the real world”, Cabell studied graphic design and art direction at Art Center in Los Angeles. She uses her background in advertising, photo manipulation, design and art direction to create large scale powerful, relevant pop art pieces. Her latest series seeks to juxtapose the conservatism of midcentury pop culture with the urgent need for social change. The result is an adventurous, playful, and at times controversial method of creation, using contrasts to critique the status quo and underscore women’s empowerment within patriarchal institutions. Her work has been in shows and private collections around the world. She creates commissioned conceptual portraits for clients as well.
