Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story.

You're IT Chroma Sites!

Three questions with Catherine Stone, owner of Chroma Sites.

Why did you start your business?

I wish I could get some of my colleagues working in corporate jobs to take the leap and start their own business. It's not easy. There are definitely heart-stopping moments. But running your own business has one huge advantage. There's always more businesses out there that can use your expertise. The potential to grow your own business is infinite.

Best selling product/service?

Our best selling service is designing and building custom, promotional websites that exceed all expectations.

Yes, there are many do-it-yourself templates out there, but he who builds his own website gets only himself as his audience. Why? Because it takes a lot of experience to get a visitor to self-identify with what a website promises. If visitors can't see themselves in that website message, if they don't see their own reflection in that website, they will move on.

With over 30 years in the communications arena, this is what we do best. We help website visitors understand how our clients can help them. Once they recognize that they are in the right place, they are happy to be convinced.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We always try to stay local to keep the community humming. We don't know everything, so, we hire other experts to fill in the gaps. These include, but are not limited to, Jade Marketing for help with strategy, SB Vogel Consulting when we get stuck on business issues, and Linnea Levine for legal advice and Don Heymann Writing Services. We also recommend Susan Corvo Redesign for inspirational work-space ideas and Salon Paul Michael, who is opening a brand new salon next month on the Post Road in Westport.
