Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Lawrence Hoy Studios!

Three questions with Larry Hoy, founder of Lawrence Hoy Studios.

Lawrence Hoy is a nationally recognized liturgical designer with over 30 years experience. Larry has built his reputation on creating worship environments that are both timely and timeless, aesthetically beautiful and idea-driven.

Tell me about your business

I have a business in Westport Connecticut designing the interiors of places of worship, principally churches. I begin my work in liturgical design 40 years ago upon graduation from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn New York.

As a liturgical designer, what are you most proud of?

I have completed over 400 projects to date, from small chapels to huge cathedrals, gaining national recognition and winning 25 awards. In addition, I've created the furnishings for three Popes: St. John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis.

Do you use any local businesses or residents to operate your business?

Westport has been a wonderful place for my business to grow. We benefit greatly from the artists and craftspeople in the area. There are many houses of worship in the Fairfield County area that would benefit greatly from our services.
