Three questions with Odete Dasilva, owner of Artistex Salon & Spa.
Why did you start your business?
I work in many avenues of the industry, from in-salon services to fashion week runway hair. I wanted to create an environment in which it was less about how everyone should look and more about how to help a client feel comfortable within their own look. Incorporating a spa with the salon makes the experience complete and a healthy self-love lifestyle is encouraged.

I wish I could help more people feel amazing and comfortable with who they are. We often see taking an interest in our image as selfish or negative but image is how we represent ourselves to our community every day, whether we want to or not. Positive self-esteem starts with image. A great hair day or fresh manicure can feel amazing and it’s a simple thing.
What is your best selling product/service?
We have always been known for our hair colorwork and practice a color formulation system that has proven to be successful for us. Currently one of our newest popular products is our Product Refill Station. It’s a sustainable retail product station in which clients can purchase hair care products by the ounce and repurposing the bottle. This saves the client up to 40% on known brands of retail products and prevents unnecessary plastic from entering our overcrowded landfills!
We always prefer doing business locally! We host many events at our location, from Art Openings – How to events and more. We often utilize various local food establishments to provide catering. One that has been great to work with is Mystic Market. We also have a commissioned Art Gallery within our location, that bi-monthly features a new local artist that we promote with a catered cocktail party. Our most recent artists were David Land and currently showing award-winning Clarice Shirvell. We welcome the community to walk in anytime to view the art.
