Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Dr. Heather M Ehinger, LMFT!

Why did you start your business?

I have always been passionate about the importance of relationships in life and valued the significance of helping people improve their lives, which in turn has brought meaning to my own life and family.  Becoming a Marriage and Family Therapist is my way of serving the community.  Over the years I have expanded to my business to incorporate a team of therapists called Family Therapy Associates in order to provide more services and meet the needs of the local community. We are particularly suited to support families and couples in all configurations and challenges to help them be their happiest and best selves. My personal specialty is high conflict couples and families including all aspects of divorce from co-parenting, mediation, custody plans and reunification.

What is your bestselling product/service?

All of our clinicians are family systems providers (Marriage and Family Therapist’s).  That means we keep the clients' family experience in mind and find ways to help clients improve themselves and find ways to heal the whole family.  We work, we needed with your whole family in order to provide a non-pathological mindset to your challenges, believing in empowering individuals, couples and families to be able to heal themselves with our guidance.  Our motto is to provide a non-judgment zone safe space for you to find healthy pathways to more happiness and joy.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business, and can you name them?

Well, first of all, we buy from local places every day for lunch, snacks and any catering we do for training and meetings from our local community.  Some of our favorites are Aux Delices, Stiles Market and Gaetano’s.  We have 12 treatment rooms and we often find ourselves at Pottery Barn, Home Goods, and local shops of all kinds to furnish our rooms and pick up nick-knacks for the offices.  We use local hardware stores for keys being made and we have a local at Westport hardware, and a cleaning company cleans our offices. We very much believe in shopping local for as many of our needs as we can.
