Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!
You're IT Alpaca Lifestyles!
Three questions with Hilary Nimons, owner of Alpaca Lifestyles.
Why did you start your business?
A family trip to Ecuador left me enamored with the country, and when I returned home I found myself longing for a way to remain connected with it’s warm, welcoming people. Through a series of steps and a touch of luck, Alpaca Lifestyle & Apparel was born. I buy my alpaca products directly from an indigenous community of artisans whose ancestral traditions lie in weaving. When you hear the phrase, “your purchase makes a difference,” know that it’s true.
Travel to Ecuador to more frequently shop the market for new finds!
What is your best-selling product?
My line consists of alpaca throws, blankets, wraps and scarves at great price points. A throw is a fabulous way to add a spark of color to a room or to change things up in different seasons, so they sell well throughout the year as a home accessory. At gift-giving time, an alpaca wrap is always a winner and is my best-selling item.
