Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Modern Dermatology!

Established in 2018, Modern Dermatology is the passion project of Dr. Klein and Dr. Robinson who first met during their residency at Yale. From residency, they both went on to gain experience in medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology, while participating in cutting edge research, and presentations locally and around the world.

Why did you start your business?

We saw a need in the community for comprehensive dermatologic care – a one-stop destination for the entire family so that busy patients wouldn’t have to trek around town or the state for their family’s skincare needs. With the growing presence of medical spas and non-medical setting injectables and laser procedures, we also felt it was important to create a boutique-style practice that would cater to the spa-like setting that aesthetic patients crave, while still holding the integrity of a true medical setting and our training as the foundation of care. We love helping patients feel their best in their skin, from tackling complicated medical conditions to tasteful aesthetic enhancements from the latest technologies available.

Finish this sentence in regard to your business. “I wish I could…”

...stress the importance of skincare to more people, dispelling the many myths about popular topics like sunscreen and acne. We wish we could also educate patients about the true difference in education and training between board-certified dermatologist providers vs. the growing presence of others who are doing injectable and laser treatments at medispas, in people's homes and who knows where else! What is your best selling product/service? The foundation of our business is our commitment to medical and surgical dermatology for patients young, old and everywhere in between. On the cosmetic side of things, we have a strong demand across injectables, aesthetician services, laser and light therapies and body contouring.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

When we were opening our business it was important to us to support other local businesses at the same time. We used a locally-based interior designer, Dana Ferraro of Molly Patton Design and through her sourced art from local talent that graces our walls, including Kerri Rosenthal, Linda Colletta, Baker Graphics and Allyson Monson. Check out this blog. We've used local photographers to shoot the space, ourselves and our staff and most recently shot with Juli D'Agostino (Julia Dags).  We've supported local businesses through co-branded social media promotions (JL Rocks and Eleven11), pop-up shops here at our space (Eleven 11, Peach) and event collaborations (Blowdry, Green + Tonic Westport).
