Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Eye For Beauty!

Four questions with Kim Higgins, founder of Eye For Beauty.

Why did you start your business?

I was planning my own wedding and realized the need for a travel beauty service that took pride in building relationships with brides throughout the whole process, making communication a priority from the first inquiry, to creating a hair and makeup style that felt most like themselves. Quickly growing from a solo artist to a small team serving Connecticut, as well as 6 other states this year.

Finish this sentence in regard to your business. "I wish I could…"

...encourage brides to start researching their beauty team right after they book their venue and photographer. Eye For Beauty CT typically books 6 months to 18 months out. Scheduling a hair and makeup trial around your engagement session or dress shopping is a great way to see the entire look come together before the big day.

What is your best selling product/service?

Our team specializes in natural-looking makeup applications either using traditional makeup or airbrush techniques. We offer hair styling (think pulled apart braids and whimsical half up half down styles). Our brides want to look and feel most like themselves on their wedding. We provide a touchup pod of foundation and lip so they can eat and drink stress-free. Our kit is filled with beauty products built for longevity and those with sensitive skin.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

Eye For Beauty CT owner/makeup artist, and our main hairstylist both grew up in Westport, and we love supporting local businesses. We believe in community over competition, meeting monthly with other Connecticut wedding vendors in the Rising Tide Society. We love recommending our brides to Fairfield County women-run businesses such as Par La Mer Photography, Bella Bridesmaids, and The Plumed Serpent Bridal. When we aren't glamming our brides, spot us at Parker Mansion, OKO, and Anthropologie.
