Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Elite Finishing!

Four questions with Glenn Williamson, founder of Elite Finishing.

Why did you start your business?

Elite Finishing was first started as a way to get me through my tuitions at UCONN. I painted for a local hedge fund throughout high school as well as my freshman and sophomore years in college. It was so satisfying seeing all the transformations we were accomplishing. After learning a bit about business in college, I started Elite Finishing my Junior year.

I saw a lack of customer service skills throughout the painting industry and wanted to raise the bar. After the first year, I fell in love with running the business and have never looked back!

What is your best-selling product/service?

Our best selling service is by far our paint jobs. We focus on residential exterior painting, interior painting, and cabinet refinishing!

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We try to solely use local businesses to support our business. We stay away from the big box stores as much as possible. Our biggest vendors are Ring's End and South Broad Paint Center.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

Elite Finishing has been stuck in a growing phase throughout the past few years. At the beginning of this year, I "reimagined" the business into a community-focused brand. The community of Westport has been unbelievably supportive and now I believe it is my turn to "paint it forward". We are always looking for community events to sponsor or just to get involved in!

Glenn would like to nominate The Visual Brand to be featured next!
