CT Homecare Agency Announces $60,000 Employee Award Program

As businesses across all industries compete to attract new talent, one Connecticut company is rewarding current employees with a new bonus program. Assisted Living Services, Inc. (ALS) in Cheshire and Westport, Conn. is converting its monthly $5,000 Platinum Caregiver Award for one outstanding employee into a $1,000 award for five employees each month in response to an employee and client survey. The program will culminate in December, 2022 with the selection of one Ultimate $5000 Platinum Caregiver.

"We are proud to recognize additional caregivers with a financial reward as they continue to display unwavering dedication to our clients," said Mario D'Aquila, MBA and Chief Operating Officer of the family-owned homecare agency. "It was incredibly difficult each month to select just one staff member."

D'Aquila explains the decision to revamp the program is based on the feedback of select caregivers in a December 2021 focus group about ALS company benefits and rewards programs. The group expressed a desire for increased opportunities to be acknowledged for their commitment to their clients' health and well-being. Additional caregivers, clients, and office staff were also polled and they too wanted to recognize more caregivers.

Previously, one winner was chosen after clients were called at random by Homecare Pulse, a third-party survey company, to measure ALS customer satisfaction. The client or family member was able to rate ALS services and the quality of care provided. Clients had the opportunity to mention caregivers that went "above and beyond" and "exceeded expectations" for the quality of care that was given to them or their loved one. The caregiver with the highest quality score won the Platinum Caregiver Award.

Since January 2022, caregivers have been given several new ways to win:
* Client Choice: In addition to excellent Homecare Pulse surveys, caregivers can also be recognized by their clients through stellar 5 Star Google reviews, glowing written letters,
or rave reviews via emails & phone calls. They are then entered into the monthly drawing for the chance to be selected as a Platinum Caregiver.
* Office Staff Choice: Office staff can nominate caregivers who consistently fill in for difficult shifts, take extra shifts whenever needed, use an electronic time and attendance perfectly, have great attendance, etc.

"We listened to our existing employees as proof that we value their loyalty, experience and compassion, while other companies may only be offering bonuses and incentives to new hires," said D'Aquila. "This program is a tangible expression of thanks to our essential caregivers for making a positive difference in our seniors' lives."

ALS has awarded staff members over $200,000 since starting the Platinum Caregiver Award program in March 2019. Each monetary bonus is accompanied by a beautiful crystal statue and a certificate of merit.

For more than two decades, ALS has led the charge to raise the standards for quality of care across the board in the highly competitive homecare industry. Incentives and genuine appreciation for staff members are just a few of the reasons ALS has a high employee retention rate with some employees still working for the agency for nearly two decades. Managers receive incentives if quality assurance benchmarks are achieved.

ALS employs caregivers across the state, all of whom are insured, bonded, and supervised. Newly hired employees undergo a National Criminal Background Check and eVerify. All of their Personal Care Assistants have received specialized training to perform personal care or assist with activities of daily living. Additional training is provided in OSHA, Safety, Alzheimer's Care, End of Life Care, Elder Abuse, Customer Service, and more. ALS is currently accepting applications for daily and live-in caregivers.
