Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT, Robin Babbin Art!

Four questions with Robin Babbin, founder of Robin Babbin Art.

Why did you start your business?

My abstract art business, robinbabbin.com, started as a labor of love!!! I’ve always been involved in creative industries and have been drawn to the intersection of color, design, art, and interiors. During quarantine, I was able to focus on painting and soon began selling my art online. I think the bright colors and the optimism in my work spoke to people, particularly during the pandemic.

In just a few months an art business was born and booming! One of the silver linings from the pandemic was the start of Robin Babbin Art!

What is your best-selling product/service?

Commissions! Commissions! I love working with clients to find the right vibe and colors for the commissioned piece of art. I usually suggest meeting in a client’s home to see where the piece of art will eventually be displayed. (If not local, FaceTime or photos work). This helps in the artistic process so that each painting is unique and personal and compliments the decor.

The entire experience comes together in such a meaningful way and truly becomes a collaborative process between the artist and the buyer.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

Framing by Jay Cimbak at Rockwell Framers. Art supplies from Michaels and Jerrys Artarama. Supplies for hanging - Westport Hardware. Some of my paintings are available at The Post and Millie Raes.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

Always! The evolution of my painting business has been very exciting. The painting is just the beginning of the journey. Working with clients to help place, measure, and hang the artwork, then seeing it come alive in their homes is the real thrill! It never gets old. Robin would like to nominate The Post CT to be featured next - "A new local business specializing in home decor."
