Quick Center for the Arts Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with Mariachi Herencia de México

Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

This year’s theme is "Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation," and here in Fairfield County, there are plenty of opportunities to join the celebration.

On September 30, Fairfield University’s Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts is thrilled to welcome Herederos. Mariachi Herencia de México is a group of young Latin musicians from Chicago, holding four highly acclaimed studio albums with chart-topping debuts on both the Billboard and the iTunes Latin Albums charts. They have been recognized as the new ambassadors of the mariachi tradition, performing a state-of-the-art, vibrant tribute to the golden age of Mexican music.

They are joined by multiple Grammy-nominated star Lupita Infante, granddaughter of Mexican icon Pedro Infante, who has paved her own way in ranchera music and serves as an advocate for women’s empowerment through her music.

“Hispanic Heritage Month is a time where we can all take pride in our own cultures while honoring the cultural differences that exists. A time where we can elevate the diversity that sets us apart while appreciating the very elements that bring us together and make us stronger,” said Quick Center Executive Director Peter Van Heerden.

Each season, the Quick Center features internationally acclaimed artists and performances. This year’s lineup includes the U.K.’s Kingdom Choir, Israeli-based Vertigo Dance, and Montreal’s own Cirque Alfonse, and thought leaders such as Judy Woodruff, Carl Bernstein, Frances Haugen, Evelyn Tribole, Bret Stephens, Rev. Naomi Tutu, Nick Gillespie and Bhaskar Sunkara, among others.

“The Quick is dedicated to engaging our community in meaningful dialogue by presenting artists and speakers from around the world. These global perspectives reflect those of our neighbors and friends but also invite our audiences to consider the culture and heritage of others that make up the fabric of our community, so we are very excited to welcome this award-winning artist to our stage to share the music,” shared Lori Jones, Quick Center Director of Programming.

Mariachi Herencia de México with Lupita Infante is supported, in part, by WPKN 89.5, In a Fairfield Minute, and Silverman Group. Tickets are on sale now at quickcenter.com for only $30, or $20 for Quick Members or by contacting the Quick Center Box Office at 203-254-4010, Monday through Friday, from 12 to 5 p.m.
