Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Rebel and Rose Tattoo!

Four questions with Amanda Mas Dorin, founder of Rebel and Rose Tattoo.

Why did you start your business?

I started Rebel & Rose Tattoo Studio mainly because Westport did not have a tattoo studio. I believed the town could benefit from this type of diversity and add some culture to downtown. Before opening downtown I was in a private studio on the town line and had built a Westport clientele. There are also no other Tattoo & Beauty shops in Fairfield County, we were the first Women-Owned and Operated.

What is your best-selling product/service?

Our best-selling services are tattoos and piercings. Many of us had to close our books because of the high demand. We are the only tattoo studio in the area with high-end curated jewelry which drives demand for that as well. Our piercer only uses a needle which is the most sterile and safe. She has the best bedside manner. She has been piercing for 17 years and worked in the nursing industry, our clients are in the best hands with her.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We have left business cards at local shops and met quite a few local business owners. Our business is mostly word of mouth, and we are very thankful to all the local shops for recommending our services! (West, Bloom Hair Salon, Allison Daniel Designs, Monarch Market, Bloom, New Beauty & Wellness to name a few). Our studio has many local painters and artists work for sale, we have a “Support Local Women” table in our waiting room selling their products.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

We are always trying to reimagine how to better the business. We do a lot of fundraising for local charities which is fun for us but also involved in the community which we would love to continue to do.

Amanda would like to nominate Bloom Hair Salon to be featured next!
