Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT J Ashley Fitness!

Four questions with Janine Lind, founder of J Ashley Fitness.

Why did you start your business?

I became a personal trainer after my oldest child was born and have always had a passion for health and fitness. In 2020, I, unfortunately, was faced with divorce, which brought on a lot of change, which included leaving my full-time job as head trainer at a local gym.

I knew with two young kids at home they were my top priority, but I also did miss training and being fulfilled with my passion. After much planning and thought, I decided the only option I had was to make my hours and schedule are open my own gym/personal training business.

What is your best-selling product/service?

I provide both personal training and small group fitness classes that focus on cardio and strength depending on the week's schedule.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

Local businesses that I’ve used in my few short months open have been Restore Therapy for recovery, Flora Physical Therapy for clients needing pre/postpartum physical therapy, vuori clothing store, Sweet Mello Treats, and Pop Studio Balloons.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

In the small time I’ve been open I’ve tried to fill a niche market of clients that want to be challenged both in cardio and strength. My group clients are motivated by one another, but also have a lot of personal attention from me as their coach. I put a ton of thought into my group classes, as well as PT clients based on their specific goals and limitations.

My classes are never the same, they are always challenging but doable for every fitness level!

Janine would like to nominate Flora Physical Therapy to be featured next!
