Boughton Selects Heather Somers as Running Mate

Team building

Danbury Mayor and candidate for Governor Mark Boughton today announced former Groton Mayor Heather Somers as his running mate in 2014.

"The status quo isn't working for too many people in Connecticut," said Boughton. "With Mayor Somers as my running mate, we will change Connecticut's state government and make our top priority jobs, jobs, jobs."

"The current administration's policies cause us to hear words such as unemployment, debt, recession, and government expansion," said Somers. "Connecticut's government is broken, but with new leadership and the ingenuity of our citizens, Connecticut can be repaired."

A RACE TO THE END

Boughton and Somers will seek the Republican Party's nominations for Governor and Lieutenant Governor in the August 12, 2014 Republican primary election.

In Connecticut there are separate primary races for Governor and Lieutenant Governor. The winners of the republican primary will face off against the Democratic candidate, expected to be Dan Malloy, in the general election November 4, 2014.

Heather Somers is currently serving in her 5th Term on the Groton Town Council, having served as Mayor for the Town of Groton for the last two years. As Mayor, Heather established an Energy Efficiency Task Force to evaluate energy saving initiatives throughout the Town. She also spearheaded a School Planning Task Force to address the issues of racial imbalance and aging school infrastructure.

A native of Groton, Heather also previously served as the Chairman of the Council's Economic Development Committee and served on the Finance and Public Health committees as well as the Utilities Expansion Steering Committee.

Professionally, Heather was a founding partner of a medical device manufacturer located in Windham County and she now works as the vice president of international sales and marketing for Hollister Inc. a medical device company headquartered in Illinois. Heather is the recipient of the Medical Device Excellence Award (2000) and a Silver Award Winner for the Connecticut Women of Innovation Awards (2007).

Heather holds Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Connecticut and resides in Groton with her husband Mark Somers, three children and three rescued pugs.
