DECD Commissioner to Join ReOpen Westport Advisory Team Meeting on July 30

Community Encouraged to Submit Questions Prior

Westport, CT – Second Selectwoman Jen Tooker announced today that David Lehman, Commissioner of the CT Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD), will join the discussion and answer community questions when the ReOpen Westport Advisory Team meets on Thursday, July 30 at 11:00 am. The meeting will be held electronically, live streamed on www.westportct.gov, and broadcast on Westport’s Optimum Government Access Channel 79 and Frontier Channel 6020. Community members may submit questions prior to the meeting to reopenteam@westportct.gov.

DECD has been a leading force for the State’s reopening efforts and has been a critical partner for the work done in Westport. Commissioner Lehman will join the ReOpen Team meeting on Thursday to provide an update on modified rules for certain business sectors, the decision to delay Phase 3 of reopening, and to answer the community's questions.

Ms. Tooker stated, “The community has re-engaged with our local businesses while keeping infection rates low. We continue to work hard to build confidence among our residents and business owners for a safe and staged reopening. It is with this background that we welcome Commissioner Lehman to our ReOpen Team meeting.  We encourage the community to submit questions and watch the meeting.”

She continued, “The ReOpen Team has been working diligently with our local businesses since May to support them in their efforts to reopen safely during the COVID-19 pandemic. The ReOpen Team has helped business owners understand and execute the rules and guidelines issued by the State and served as a local resource during these unprecedented times.

Currently, in Westport, over 75% of our retailers have opened their doors, over 60% of our salons and barbershops are providing services, over 50 restaurants and delis are offering outdoor dining and dozens of fitness studios are hosting classes, with an outdoor option soon to be available. Of course, we still have numerous businesses that never closed and continue to keep their doors open, prioritizing the safety and health of clients and employees. In addition, many outdoor spaces in Town have been activated to provide safe entertainment options, showcasing the creativity of our community.”

Please follow these various social media campaigns as we all do our part to reopen Westport safely.
