Lamont Discusses Reopening Schools: Districts Can Apply for Exeception for Fully Remote Approach

During Governor Ned Lamont's 4:00 p.m. news briefing today, Lamont said that right now the metrics indicate that Connecticut can have "in class" as well as a hybrid model.

Lamont explained that if there are districts that want to do full distance learning, no matter what the metrics indicate, they can request exception approval form State Board of Education.

Ezekiel Emanuel, part of the Reopen Connecticut Advisory Group and Vice Provost for Global Initiatives and chair of the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the University of Pennsylvania, offered his views on the reopening of Connecticut public schools (watch at 53:59).

Below are the key takeaways:

  • District leaders will determine between full in-person or hybrid model
  • County-based Public Health metrics will provide guide for decision making
  • Metrics will be updated weekly to support decision making
  • If metrics support in-person instruction, districts recommending fully remote approach will require exception approval form State Board of Education

Today, there were an additional 130 positive COVID cases, 6 deaths, and 13 people hospitalizations.
