Jonathan Steinberg announces candidacy for Westport First Selectman on Democratic Ticket, Running Mate is Candice Savin

This morning, State Representative Jonathan Steinberg announced his candidacy for First Selectman on the Democratic ticket. Both at the State Capitol and as a community leader, Steinberg has a proven record of leadership and results. As Chair of the state Legislature's Public Health Committee, Jonathan was intimately involved in the state's response to the pandemic and has been a leader in imposing fiscal discipline in state budgeting.

Steinberg’s running mate is Board of Education Chair Candice Savin, who safely opened the Westport schools during the pandemic and has been a fierce and effective advocate for the proper maintenance of school buildings.

Together, Steinberg, a long-time marketing executive, and Savin, an experienced attorney and former prosecutor, bring a solution-driven, pragmatic and disciplined approach to improving our quality of life.

“Coming out of a difficult year for our community, we will work together to make Westport better than ever,” said Steinberg. “Westport is a special place to raise a family, work, or retire. Our administration will work for everyone in town: from our newest citizens to our most vulnerable, and we will enhance those town attributes that brought us all here in the first place.”

“I’m running with Jonathan because he gets it done,” said Savin. “Jonathan has the vision to keep Westport on the competitive edge – and the drive and work ethic to make it happen. We intend to win and will make Westport better than ever.”

The Steinberg/Savin team has clear priorities and a plan:

● We will make our downtown a vibrant community hub, a gathering place to shop, share activities and embrace the river in a new way.

● We will tackle the tough decisions facing our community, like addressing our traffic problems, setting priorities to update our aging school facilities and critical infrastructure, and optimizing town assets like Compo and Longshore.

● We will be laser-focused on making town government more responsive and efficient, assuring that every tax dollar is well-invested.

Steinberg is a former marketing executive with consumer healthcare companies like Revlon, Bristol-Myers and The Mount Sinai Hospital. He has a B.A. from Yale and an M.B.A. from the Stern School of Business at N.Y.U.

Savin, a former criminal prosecutor, has a successful real estate law practice in Westport. She is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and Duke Law School.

Steinberg added, “We're proud Democrats, but we'll always be bipartisan in pursuing opportunities for the people of Westport. And we'll always reach out and get your feedback on how to do it best.”

“We know this town. We know the people. We know the schools,” added Savin. “We understand what matters to you. Join us in making Westport an even better place for all of us.”

Steinberg and Savin will be detailing more soon about how they’ll bring their vision to life. For more information and how to help please go to: www.SteinbergSavinforWestport.com
