Home Staging for the Holidays

(WESTON, CT) -- The holidays are quickly approaching and for many, so are friends and relatives.  Although it’s the season of thanks and joy, it can become strained for those seeking a picture-perfect home.  If so, you need not fret -- Weston designer, Lexie Proceller, can make your home holiday-friendly with limited time and resources.

With a masters in architecture, Proceller has worked in the design industry for over two decades, in both the commercial and residential arenas.  She currently consults for the New York-based firm, A-Squared, and has also founded her own company, ARP Designs.  Ms. Proceller has designed an array of  projects ranging from law firm lobbies to retail stores to master bedrooms.   Her expertise lies not only in space distribution, but in color and texture coordination as well.

Recognizing the economic climate, Ms. Proceller works with smaller budgets for both the office bound and at home set, and has developed a special staging program for the holidays.

“People become very stressed during the holidays when they entertain family, friends, and especially business associates.  They’re rushed and harried, but want their home to present well.  That’s where I come in,” said Proceller.

Ms. Proceller is now available for unique “holiday home staging parties,” where one room is chosen for a “face-lift” -- as moderate or extensive as a client desires.  A gathering is then held, where Lexie delivers a complete presentation to include possible fabrics, paint chips, and layouts.  New lighting, window treatments, upholstery, and seasonal accessories may also be recommended, depending on the host’s specifications.  At staging parties, Proceller’s consulting fee is waved and the cost concerns only materials and labor.

In preparation for your complimentary consultation, Proceller recommends you think “big picture” by determining the project’s scope and a ballpark budget.  Select the room for sprucing, then decide on a desired style and color palette.  Ask yourself key questions to narrow the focus.  Do you like earth tones or brighter colors?  With fabrics, are you a patterns or solids lover, or perhaps crave metallic accents for that extra glitz?  Do you yearn for an elegant dining room or festive family room?  Will you be hosting a casual open house, holiday cocktail party, or formal dinner?  Should the room work for families with toddlers or adults only?

Next, decide if you want to make use of your current belongings.  Are you a fan of family heirlooms or prefer to freshen things up with new, but cost-effective decorations?  Give thought to the style you want and what can make it materialize.  Choose from greenery, candles, wreaths, dried flowers, pine cones, or fruit.  Incorporate monogramed or seasonal guest towels and coasters, or crystal and porcelain figurines for added flair.  With holiday decor, the possibilities are limitless.  Proceller recommends collecting magazine pages of looks you like.  “My goal is to capture a client’s vision, so the more concepts, the better,” commented Proceller.

Creating festive surroundings can help set the tone for an upbeat celebration.  Holiday stress just might disappear in your newly refurbished room.   Entertainers should toast the season and take note  -- a holiday staging party may be the ideal gift to yourself this year!

Ms. Proceller is available for holiday home staging events, consulting, and design work.  For more information or to host an event, please contact her via lexiep@optonline.net or (203) 258-4576.  Ms. Proceller resides in Weston with her husband and two daughters.
