Alan J. Mathis joined Liberation Programs in 2006 and under his leadership the agency has increased the number of people served by 38%, reduced wait times for treatment, and expanded access to wraparound social services including a transitional employment program and increased access to primary medical services through partnerships with community health centers. Working with the Board of Directors, the agency developed a permanent supportive housing complex in Norwalk for women and their children.
Liberation Programs’ Minute for Mission is an opportunity for people of faith to learn more about the disease of addiction and ways their faith can guide them in making a difference as we face the current epidemic of substance abuse. As part of this initiative, Mr. Mathis has addressed numerous congregations to talk about creating a culture that supports and encourages those faced with addiction to seek help without shame or fear.
By starting the conversation, we can create a path to stronger, healthier communities. Through our actions and beliefs, we can make it easy for individuals and families struggling with addiction to get the treatment they need to enjoy lifelong recovery. Mr. Mathis has spoken at St. Luke’s Parish, Darien, the First Congregational Church of Darien, the First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan, Grace Baptist Church of Norwalk, Temple Sinai of Stamford, Union Baptist Church of Stamford, and Wilton Presbyterian Church.
