Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story.
Marché is an artisan market that was started by Wilton residents, Katie Nelson and Kerry Ray in 2024.
Meet Katie Nelson co-founder of Marché.
Why did you start your Marché?
There are many artisans and makers in our area, and we wanted to give them a platform to showcase their talents. We also wanted to create something in Wilton where members of our community could gather, socialize, and learn from the artisans in our community. We want to spark creativity and connection within our beautiful town of Wilton.
Tell me about the upcoming Holiday Market
It's a unique blend of artisans- a coffee roaster, candlemaker, jeweler, baker, record store, plant shop, vintage, woven textiles, wrapping paper, children's clothing, artists, and much more. We finely curated the products to offer one-of-a-kind gifts for the people we love and to inspire.
25 local artisans from all over Connecticut.
In addition to the Market, how do you support local artisans throughout the year?
We prefer to shop local and are frequent shoppers of the Wilton Farmer's Market and the Westport Farmers Market. We also plan on hosting many more Marché events and workshops for 2025!
Marché nominates Wild Child… “a lovely toy store in Wilton, owned by Ariel Knapp Friedman”.
